About Me...
Hi! My name is Faith McCollum. I love my profession...teaching!
I graduated from Furman University with a Bachelors Degree in Special Education. I earned my Masters at Georgia State University, also in Special Education. In addition, I have completed three graduate courses to earn a gifted endorsement for my certificate (Thank you, Evansdale Foundation).
I have taught in DeKalb County my entire career, first at Redan Elementary and later at Montgomery Elementary. I transferred to Evansdale to be closer to home. I taught children with learning disabilities in resource and self-contained settings for 25 years. Recently I made the transition to regular education, teaching the 2nd grade Magnet class. I now teach 3rd grade math and science, and I love it! I have the pleasure of working with a great 3rd grade team, very supportive parents, and bright, enthusiastic students.
I have two daughters who are the light of my life. Hannah is a junior at UGA. Emi, an Evansdale grad, is a freshman at Chamblee Charter High School. We have two of the sweetest mutts, Coby and Cricket, and a sassy cat named Lacey. We love living in Tucker with its small-town feel, but we also crave our times on the South Carolina coast where my mom lives.
My personal philosophy of education...
*use the wisdom that comes from my many years of teaching
*continue to learn and try new strategies and practices, be open to new ideas
*do my best to inspire my students to love learning...math and science are not boring!
*reach all my students, and take them as far as they can go
*help my students to become self-motivated and independent learners
*cheer my students on as they learn the value of struggle and perseverance
*create a feeling of family in my classroom that fosters safety, support, and an atmosphere of belonging
