Remember that our field trip to release the trout is on Tuesday. This trip is an extension of the Small Fry program that Evansdale students have been a part of this year. Our field trip was planned by Mr. Poole—thank you, Mr. Poole!

We're off again...on another field trip. This time we are going to the Tellus Museum to learn more about minerals and rocks and fossils. I sent home a reminder in Friday's courier with details about the trip and lunch.
Wow! We had a fantastic time learning first-hand about how a local government works! The government workers in Doraville rolled out the red carpet for us! Students are writing thank you notes today. A big thank-you goes to Mrs. Adams for organizing this trip to enrich our Social Studies curriculum! As we said good-bye to Hector, we welcome Jordan to our class! Congratulations to Elle for participating in the county science fair. Her project on buoyancy was outstanding! She earned an Honorable Mention award. Mattie did a great job on the morning announcements! She encouraged students and teachers to support Exceptional Children's Month by purchasing a special button. Language Arts Story: Two Bear Cubs (a play) Spelling/Phonics: r-controlled words Comprehension skill: compare/contrast characters Writing: persuasive Grammar: adjectives (comparative and superlative) Math: fractions *Students are asked to study multiplication or division facts every day. Please look for a math fact Study Log coming home on Monday. While there are many ways for students to practice and master the facts, I have come to see that the old fashioned way, using flashcards and being drilled by a parent, has the best results. I will try to give timed drills daily. There will be a test every Thursday (0-10's). Some students have already mastered the multiplication facts and should now be studying the division facts. Science: Begin the unit on Rocks and Minerals Below is a link to a webquest your child will complete. Parts 1 and 3 can be done at school or home. Part 2 will be done at school. Congratulations to Titus for doing an awesome job in the Black History program! We are all so proud of you! Congratulations to Lena, our Citizen of the Month! Please check your child's planner every day. He/She should be writing down homework assignments. Please also look at the front of the planner where I record "checks". Not everyone got the chance to present his/her Black History projects on Friday...we had a very busy day. We will finish up on Monday and Tuesday. Last Friday students worked in groups to compete in a Marshmallow Challenge, a STEM project. I will post pictures soon. |
