This is what we are up to this week...
In math we will continue to explore fractions. Your child will learn that we can use fractions in three main ways--when we measure things, and when we talk about parts of groups or parts of things. Discuss fractions when you cut that pizza or cake or batch of brownies. Share how you use a ruler to measure or a measuring cup when you prepare dinner. FYI--we will be measuring to the nearest half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth of an inch.
In science students will continue to share their projects. We are learning so much from each other. We will also try to begin a group project in class that summarizes what we have learned about habitats of Georgia, our animals, and our plants.
Students will be taking DeKalb County benchmark tests in all subjects areas this week. The tests are administered in the computer lab.
We had another scientist from Fernbank spend the day with 3rd grade. He shared his love of rocks and minerals with us. Students got a great introduction to our next focus in science. They learned about the minerals and rocks of Georgia and worked in groups to identify some samples. My homeroom class got quite a compliment...he said he was impressed with their focus and participation!
Thanks for sending in disinfectant wipes and tissue. I think we may have enough tissue, but still are in need of hand sanitizer and wipes.
