This is what we are up to this week...
Language Arts
Story: Two Bear Cubs (a play)
Spelling/Phonics: r-controlled words
Comprehension skill: compare/contrast characters
Writing: persuasive
Grammar: adjectives (comparative and superlative)
Math: fractions
*Students are asked to study multiplication or division facts every day. Please look for a math fact Study Log coming home on Monday. While there are many ways for students to practice and master the facts, I have come to see that the old fashioned way, using flashcards and being drilled by a parent, has the best results. I will try to give timed drills daily. There will be a test every Thursday (0-10's). Some students have already mastered the multiplication facts and should now be studying the division facts.
Science: Begin the unit on Rocks and Minerals
Below is a link to a webquest your child will complete. Parts 1 and 3 can be done at school or home. Part 2 will be done at school. I will provide more details soon.

Social Studies: Goods and Services
Announcements and Reminders
We welcome Hector Gonzales to our class!
Congratulations to Titus for doing an awesome job in the Black History program! We are all so proud of you!
Congratulations to Lena, our Citizen of the Month!
Please check your child's planner every day. He/She should be writing down homework assignments. Please also look at the front of the planner where I record "checks".
Not everyone got the chance to present his/her Black History projects on Friday...we had a very busy day. We will finish up on Monday and Tuesday.
Last Friday students worked in groups to compete in a Marshmallow Challenge, a STEM project. I will post pictures soon.
