Most testing is over!  Yay!  We had a wonderful, fantastic Olympic Day!  We were champions in 5 of the 7 events!  And the best part...the good sportsmanship displayed by everyone in my class!
This is what we are up to this week:

Reading:  novels in small groups

Writing:  persuasive

SLO (Student Learning Objectives) testing in the computer lab this week and next.

We will also be preparing for STEMposium.  Career Day and the STEMposium will be Thursday, May 19.

Please do not forget our final APTT meeting on Wednesday, May 18 @ 5:30. We will share growth data with you and give you suggestions for fun ways to help your child maintain skills during the summer.

Good morning!

Testing, testing, testing!  We have been busy testing!  But unfortunately we are not finished.  While most students have completed the Georgia Milestones End of Year Tests, we still have STAR Reading, STAR Math, and SLO (Student Learning Objectives) tests in all content areas.  These tests are not as long and are taken online.

So this is what we are up to this week...

Monday:  Georgia Milestones (SS)  Yay...done!

Tuesday
  • STAR Reading (if laptops cooperate)
  • Writing--opinions
  • Cursive handwriting

Wednesday and Thursday
  • STAR testing as technology is available
  • Writing
  • Cursive handwriting
  • reading in small groups

Friday:  Olympic Day!

Reminders

  • Thank you so much for all your support at home!
  • I will not assign homework this week, although all students should be reading to try to meet their AR goals!
  • Please put this date on your calendar--Our 2nd ATTP Night will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 5:30-7:00. We will be reviewing current data and setting goals for next year.  Several families attended the first meeting and found it very helpful...I hope more can attend this time.

Week of 4/18/16

I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend!

This is what we are up to this week:
  • Milestone Testing takes place on Tuesday and Thursday
  • Make-up testing for those who are absent is Wednesday and Friday.
  • Pencils are provided.

Social Studies
  • study of Cesar Chevez
  • review for Social Studies Milestone testing which will take place next week

Reminders:
  • We have worked very hard all year!  While the Milestone test is very important (students must pass the reading section to be promoted to 4th grade), I really don't want students to be overly stressed.  Please talk with your child about being focused, doing their best, and persisting, but also please convey encouragement and a sense of calm.  In the end, it's just a test...a test that is very limited in its ability to know all the wonderful parts of your child!
  • There will be no homework this week except for those in my morning class who did not complete the review packet this weekend or in class today.
  • As always, thank you so much for your support at home!

Here is a photo of Kristian, Mr. Langley's "Employee of the Month".  He has been such a great helper in the Media Center!

As you know, the Georgia Milestone testing begins next week.  While I do not like to place too much stress on testing, this test is important.  Students must pass the reading sections to be promoted to 4th grade.

I'm sending the suggestions below home with your child today:

How to prepare for the Georgia Milestones Test

If you tried your best every day, did your homework, completed all classwork, and participated in class you are prepared for the test.  You can review and be prepared for the kinds of questions on the test by:

  • Going to  http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Assessment/Pages/EOG-Study-Resource-Guides.aspx
  • Reviewing all the Georgia Studies Weekly newspapers in your binder
  • Reviewing the vocabulary and test taking tips attached (copied from the link above)
  • Getting lots of rest and eating a healthy breakfast prior to testing
