Our materials were a small pack of Gobstoppers (Fred), a candy lifesaver, a plastic cup (the boat), and 4 paper clips. The set-up: Fred is on top of the upside-down cup. The life preserver is under the cup.
We worked in partners. We recorded our steps. We demonstrated the steps for the class.
We used multiplication and division when we helped Ms. McCollum give out the supplies. We used teamwork and patience as we worked with each other. We created technology out of the paperclips. Each pair had a different solution, so we used our creativity and problem-solving strategies. We made plans, experienced failures (Fred fell in the lake many times), and we all persevered! We used sequencing skills to record our steps. We used our writing skills to describe how we saved Fred!
Titus and Madelyn won the award for working so well as a team! Gabriel and Brian saved Fred faster than any other team. Elle and Zavier stabbed Fred, but were successful in the end. Many teams created tools (technology), like forceps and chains and poles. Madelyn managed to push the boat over. One team put Fred and his life preserver inside the boat which they had turned right-side up. Fun, fun, fun!
