A little frustration last week...my frustration. We had two interruptions to our week. On Wednesday, students took the state pilot language arts benchmark test...a test to "test" the test questions. In addition, students took the Write Score test on Thursday...given a prompt, each student wrote a paragraph which will be evaluated. Believe it or not, this writing assessment took up a lot of our day. But unlike the pilot benchmark, we will get good information about your child's writing skills from it.
That being noted, we were not able to do everything I had planned, especially in language arts and math.
But...we did have lots of fun learning about Paul Revere! We also did our first STEM challenge. Ask your child about it and go to the photo gallery on my website to see some pictures!
This is what we are up to this week...
Language Arts
Comprehension Skill--locate information using headings
and graphics
Grammar--compound subjects and predicates
Spelling--plurals and other important school vocabulary
*Reading, Grammar, and Spelling tests on Friday
Look for the Spelling Choice Board and a writing
assignment to come home on Monday. The writing
assignment is due on Thursday and the Spelling
homework (4 activities) is due on Friday.
Math
Subtraction with regrouping
*Test on Wednesday
Science
Review of Chapter 4 (Heat)
*Test early next week
Social Studies
Learn about the equator, prime meridian, latitude, and
longitude
Reminders and Notices
Progress Reports go home on Tuesday.
Please send a note or email if your child is going home a different way than usual.
Please sign and return one copy of your child's STAR Math and Reading reports that were sent home last Monday. I have not received the signed copies from several students.
Conferences Afternoon is this Thursday. An interpreter will be at Evansdale that day, so I am reserving Thursday for those families that need an interpreter. I will be sending out requests for conferences on Monday. I am looking forward to meeting with everyone soon!
Spirit Night is this Thursday.
Picture Day is on Friday.
Busy week....
